Hollinger: Hornets will be 6 games worse

ESPN's John Hollinger predicts the Hornets will go 50-32 this year. His main reasons: lack of front court depth and an average age of 31 for Peja/Posey/Peterson.

More gripes to follow, but for now: there is no way the front court backups could be worse than last year. Unless they fractured four legs between them or something. And that team won 56 games.

As far as the age issue, I don't see Posey taking a monumental step back just because he goes from 31 to 32. He's on the decline, sure. Nobody is debating that. But partially responsible for a 6 game drop?

Peja... I actually do see him regressing, injured or not. Much more to follow on that soon.

Because I can't stand the CP3 to Chandler oops.

Hornets Sign Sean Marks

Hornets.com is reporting that New Orleans has signed the former Cal Bear and New Zealand native. At 6'10", 250 pounds, Marks figures to add some bulk to the frontline.

That said, Marks' games played figures over the last 9 years are scary: 8, 5, 21, 23, 23, 25, 3, 19. That's good for an average of 14 games a season...

From Hornets.com: "We are excited for Sean to join our team," said Hornets General Manager Jeff Bower. "He is a veteran leader, who has been on winning teams and will be a great addition to our frontcourt."

Marks has played for the minimum throughout his career, and there's no reason to suspect otherwise here.

Not only did the Hornets jerseys get a makeover, the entire court in the arena did too. The Fleur de Bee logo is now featured at center court.

The entire border of the court is now Creole blue with "New Orleans Hornets" under both baskets in Gold. The font of "New Orleans Hornets" matches the same font used on the new uniforms.

The NOLA Horn logo is on the outside of the lane on both ends of the court.

The deal is reported worth 4 million and is just 1 year long (wasn't he long for job stability?). NOLA is reporting that Ryan Bowen has signed another one year deal with the Hornets. Contract details haven't been given out yet, but I'm assuming it's the minimum contract. I like the move- it gives us some depth, Bowen already knows the system, and we retain an All-Hustle first teamer. Hat tip to Hornets Hype for seeing it first.

A taste: "Paul is obviously two years older than he was at the World Championships in Japan, but there's more to his progression as a player than that. Two years ago, he had just won the Rookie of the Year award, but fell short of the playoffs. This time around, he just finished second for MVP, leading his team to the second best record in the Western Conference and to the seventh game of the Conference Semifinals.

He's more experienced. He's more mature. He's bigger. He's stronger. And in a game where confidence can mean everything, Paul's confidence "has skyrocketed," as Colangelo puts it.

Colangelo goes even further. "Comparing Chris Paul two years ago and now is apples and oranges," he said Sunday."

Chris Sheridan implies that it may be a sign of things to come- "Little did [Kidd] know it at the time, but it may have been his first step toward becoming the utility wedge instead of the driver in Coach K's bag of tricks." Kidd's been getting very few minutes in second halves anyway, so I'm not reading into it too much. And DWill outclassed Paul against Russia, so nothing resembling a lineup change is imminent.
