Kemba Walker signs contract to play in Europe

The greatest Charlotte Hornet of all time will not be in the NBA next season. He has signed a contract to play with French league side AS Monaco.

AS Monaco is one of the best basketball teams in all of Europe. They’re coming off a French league title after going 26-8 in the regular season. They won all eight of their playoff games in route to the title, culminating in a 3-0 championship sweep of Victor Wembanyama and Metropolitans 92.

They concurrently competed in the EuroLeague last season (and will again this season), which is a league featuring the best teams from throughout Europe. They finished the regular season with a 21-13 record, good for third in the league, but they were knocked out in the semifinals by the number one seed Olympiacos of Greece.

He joins a few other former NBA players on the AS Monaco roster. He’ll share the backcourt with Mike James, who has had a couple of brief stints in the NBA that featured some social media-frenzying highlights. The team also features Donatas Montiejunas who was a decent player in the NBA for a few years. Jaron Blossomgame spent a year with the Cleveland Cavliers, and Jordan Lloyd has a Raptors championship ring and is known by many as the random guy in a suit.

If you want to watch Kemba take the floor, you can purchase EuroLeague day, monthly, and season passes to watch the games. NBA TV and the NBA app have also occasionally shown games from across the pond, but I don’t know what the plans are for that this season.

Best of luck to Walker, who will surely have success there, and he finally is on a title contending team. Plus he gets to live in Monaco, which is a pretty sweet gig in its own right.
