The Charlotte Hornets have done much in the free agency or trade market since the league year opened on Tuesday afternoon. However, they have been busy getting their roster set for the summer league in Las Vegas that starts next week.

Here’s the team by position. Expected starters (by me) are in bold.

Guards

• Christian Anderson Jr. (rookie first round pick)
• Sion James (returning second year player)
• Terrell Brown Jr. (returning Swarm player)
• Kylan Boswell (undrafted rookie out of Illinois, currently on two-way contract)
• Max McKinnon (undrafted rookie out of LSU)
• Latrell Wrightsell Jr. (undrafted rookie out of Alabama)

Forwards

• Liam McNeeley (returning second year player)
• Tidjane Salaun (returning third year player)
• Cameron Matthews (second year G League player (Rio Grande Vipers)
• Michael Ajayi (undrafted rookie out of Butler)
• Wyatt Fricks (undrafted rookie out of Marshall)

Bigs

• Ryan Kalkbrenner (returning second year player)
• Hannes Steinbach (rookie first round pick, also listed as forward)
• Josiah Allick (returning Swarm player)

The team will be coached by Hornets assistant Blaine Mueller, who’s been on the staff since Charles Lee was hired in 2024. He previously coached the Maine Celtics of the G League, so he has experience coaching in this environment.

On paper, it’s not the most exciting roster the Hornets have ever assembled for summer league, but I guess that’s a product of not having any high lottery picks. Three of last year’s draft picks from the defending summer league champions are back, but they’ll be without Kon Knueppel. Tidjane Salaun somewhat surprisingly makes his return for a third visit to summer league, which typically isn’t ideal. It also looks like rookies Christian Anderson and Hannes Steinbach are going to get plenty of opportunities, especially if guys like James and Kalkbrenner quickly get shut down since they don’t need the experience enough.

The Hornets start their summer league slate next Wednesday against the Magic at 7:30pm Eastern.
