The NBA trade deadline is 3:00pm Eastern time today.

It is only now NBA trade deadline day, but the league has wasted no time going off the rails and sending significant players all over the place. The Charlotte Hornets have played a part in that by sending Mark Williams to the Lakers and engaging in a super consequential pick swap with the Thunder. Let’s summarize what’s happened so far.

Charlotte Hornets

• Sent Nick Richards to the Suns for Josh Okogie and three future second round picks belonging to the Suns and Nuggets
• Sent the Nuggets’ 2030 second round pick to the Thunder in exchange for the Suns 2029 second round pick
• Sent Mark Williams to the Lakers for Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, a 2030 first round pick swap, and an unprotected 2031 first round pick.

The rest of the league

Note, this isn’t all of them because some are not really worth paying mind to. They’re also ordered mostly by what’s most interesting to me personally.

• The Mavericks actually really sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers for Anthony Davis and a 2029 first round pick. There are other pieces but they are of little consequence relative to those two.
• The Mavericks traded Quentin Grimes and a 2025 2nd round pick to downgrade to Caleb Martin.
• The Lakers had previously traded D’Angelo Russell to the Nets for Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton.
• The Warriors are acquiring Jimmy Butler and sending Kyle Anderson and Andrew Wiggins to the Heat. There are a lot of other moving parts in the four team trade.
• The Kings sent De’Aaron Fox to the Spurs and in return reunited Zach LaVine with DeMar DeRozan while collecting a haul of draft picks. The Bulls got a first round pick and some spare parts.
• The Pelicans traded Brandon Ingram to the Raptors for Kelly Olynyk, Bruce Brown, and a first and second rounder.
• The Jazz unloaded three future first round picks to the Suns in exchange for the Suns own unprotected first round pick in 2031.

It doesn’t feel like we’re anywhere close to done with the trade deadline. The Hornets seem destined to make at least one more future asset collection move, and I’d guess there’s some other star or star-ish level that’s going to change homes today.
