The Hornets are out of the running for back to back summer league championships, so really what’s the point anymore? We’re also at the point of summer league where players start getting shut down. I don’t think the Hornets will shut anybody down as that doesn’t seem to be their MO. At least it wasn’t last year. But maybe that’ll change now that there isn’t a championship to win and guys are likely to be part of the rotation when the real games start.

Tonight’s opponent, the Bucks, have had a rough go of it in summer league. And they thought it couldn’t get any worse after trading Giannis Antetokounmpo. They’ve lost all three of their games, though to their credit, the games have gotten closer each time. Rookie 10th overall pick Brayden Burries has led the team in scoring all three games and his averaging 22.3 points per game. Rookie 13th overall pick Nate Ament hasn’t had quite the pop. He’s scored 21 total points in the three games. Burries is coming off a game where he totaled 23 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals, so I think it’s highly likely he gets put on ice for this game. We’ll probably still see Ament though.

For the Hornets, the main thing I think we all want to see are more shot attempts and fewer turnovers. I had to miss the game against the Celtics and refused to watch it after the fact when I saw the Hornets finished the game with more turnovers than made field goals. It’s hard to win basketball games that way. I also kind of want to see what they look like without Liam McNeeley. He’s clearly got this summer league thing figured out. Let’s see what the other kids can do.
