According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Charlotte Hornets are expected to retire Dell Curry’s number 30 in a ceremony during the March 19th game against the Orlando Magic.

It’s a long overdue honor for the man that is arguably the most synonymous with the Charlotte Hornets since their inception. He spent 10 seasons as a player on the Hornets during their golden age in the 90s, winning Sixth Man of the Year in 1994. By the time he departed in 1998, he was the franchise’s all time leader in virtually every statistic you’d expect from a shooting guard, including games, points, and 3-pointers made. Some of his records have started to fall, but he’s still played more games as a Charlotte Hornet than anyone else in the history of the world.

He currently serves as a team ambassador and as the analyst on the best TV commentary crew in the NBA. There’s no one more deserving of having their number in the Spectrum Center rafters.

It will be the second number retired by the Hornets. It will be hung alongside Curry’s former teammate Bobby Phills’ number 13 jersey that was retired in February 2000, one month after Phills tragically passed away in a car accident during the season.
