This follows a report from the team a few days ago that the pair had been taking part in team activities. Typically these kinds of rehab assignments are very short, so hopefully that means we see the Hornets primary center duo back with the Hornets in short order. Their returns couldn’t come at a better time, as their primary fill-in Grant Williams just went down for the season with a torn ACL.
Richards started the first five games of the season in place of the previously injured Williams and put up some of the best numbers of his career. He averaged 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks in those contests.
Mark Williams hasn’t appeared in a game since December 8, 2023. He missed every game after that one with a lingering back issue. He was apparently past that issue coming into camp but strained his foot, and that’s kept him out so far this season. Prior to his injuries, Williams was a force on both sides of the ball. He’s a deterrent in the paint due to his sheer size, and is soft hands and touch make him a perfect lob and dunker target on offense.
