One day after the Charlotte Hornets announced a partnership with Cox Media that would broadcast their non-nationally televised games on local TV, the NBA released the full regular season schedule. You can see the schedule for yourself. But here are a few things I found mildly interesting about it at first glance.

• The Hornets get six nationally televised games as it stands right now. All of them come in January and later, and it’s clear what rivalries that NBA is trying to promote. Both games between the Hornets and Timberwolves will be broadcast nationally as will both games between the Hornets and the Mavericks. Clearly the LaMelo Ball story arc still has appeal as does the rivalry between former Duke teammates Kon Knueppel and Cooper Flagg. The other two games are against the Celtics (as is tradition) and the Pacers.
• We get to see a lot of old faces in new places right out of the gate. After opening the season against Julius Randle and the Nets, the Hornets play their third and fourth games against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Heat and Anthony Davis/Trae Young and the Wizards. The first meeting with the new look 76ers comes a couple games later in the seventh game of the season.
• The big west coast road trip comes in January. The Hornets will play six Western Conference road games between January 9th and 19th. Fortunately it’s a relatively soft selection of Western Conference opponents. In total, the Hornets will play eight Western Conference road games in January alone.
• On the bright side, the schedule leading up to that west coast swing is remarkably forgiving. The Hornets will play two road games in the span of a month between November 21st and December 22nd. Those games are spaced out by 10 days with no games in between at the moment (though they’ll be filled by NBA Cup games later). The Hornets have nine home games in that span.
• The Hornets have a handful of matinee games, including a 1:00 game against the Spurs on New Years Eve (which is a Thursday) and a noon game against the Timberwolves on Presidents Day (which happens to be the Monday after the Super Bowl this year). The Timberwolves game will be broadcast on NBC.
• It’s a home heavy start (7 of the first 11 at home) but a road heavy finish (5 of the last 7 on the road). I don’t think that really means much in the grand scheme of things, but we’ll say it gives the Hornets a good chance to get some momentum to start the season.
