Hornets announce Mark Williams has undergone thumb surgery

The Charlotte Hornets have announced that center Mark Williams underwent surgery for a torn ligament in his right thumb.

Williams is expected to make a full recovery and the Hornets will provide status updates as appropriate. It’s probably fair to assume he’ll miss Summer League, which begins in about three weeks. The traditional Summer League runs from July 7-17 in Las Vegas, though the Hornets will also take part in the California Classic in Sacramento on July 3 and 5.

Late last season, Williams missed a handful of games with a sprained right thumb. Hopefully, the surgery corrected any lingering issues. It’s unfortunate fans likely won’t get to see him play again until opening night of the 2023-24 season, but it’s not fully necessary for the team’s starting center to play in Summer League games anyways. Get well soon, Mark.
