Hornets vs Spurs summer league: Preview and how to watch

What: Charlotte Hornets (0-0) vs San Antonio Spurs (0-0)
When: 8:00pm Eastern
Where: Golden 1 Center; Sacramento, CA
How to watch: ESPN

With all of the wheeling and dealing the Hornets have done in free agency, it’s easy to forget that Summer League basketball is here. It’s our first chance to see draft picks like Brandon Miller in action in a Hornets uniform and unilaterally decide the fates of their NBA careers. And lucky for us, the Hornets decided to double dip in the summer league this year, so we get more chances to watch them play.

The league set up a marquee showdown between the second overall pick Miller and first overall pick Victor Wembanyama. Unfortunately for everybody, Wemby is sitting out the California Classic, presumably because his season in France ended not too long ago. He’ll be back for the Las Vegas Summer League, where these two teams will meet in a much anticipated rematch.

But first things first. We won’t know what the starting lineup will be until tip off, but it’s safe to assume Brandon Miller will be there. I’d also guess third year pros James Bouknight and Kai Jones will start the first game at least, though their involvement throughout Summer Leauge may by more sporadic. Bryce McGowens probably gets a spot too since he’s the most successful professional basketball player on the squad.

The Spurs have a few interesting non-Wemby players to watch. ATH community mock draft selection Sidy Cissoko will suit up alongside last year’s first round picks Malaki Branham and Blake Wesley.
