One last preseason game before the real bullets start flying. The Hornets wrap up with the Celtics, who always seem to be present for out-of-the-ordinary games like preseason or nationally televised broadcasts. The Celtics have alternated between the 76ers and Knicks for their first four preseason games before this.
Given that this is the Celtic’s fifth preseason game and that they played almost a normal rotation on Tuesday, I wouldn’t expect to see their key players for a whole lot of time tonight. Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla has said everyone will play, but I’d be very surprised if it was for extended minutes. They have big aspirations. They don’t need to be wearing their players out in the preseason.
The Hornets, for their part, are more likely to treat this like a final tune-up. It’s only their fourth preseason game, so they could use one more game to get their legs under them and shake the rust off. Gordon Hayward will possibly return tonight after practicing fully all week. We’ll get one last look to see the Hornets usual rotation pre-Miles Bridges return (if he does return).
The Hornets have played well to this point in the preseason, and hopefully they’ll be able to keep that momentum up in this last game. The chemistry looks good and the roles look clearly defined.
After this, the Hornets will have five days off before tipping off the regular season next Wednesday.
