Ever wonder what’s going on with those guys in the G League for the Greensboro Swarm? Well now you have a place to get some updates on a weekly basis.
To get you caught up if you haven’t paid any attention at all to the Swarm–the Swarm are terrible. They’re 3-9 and have the third worst offense in the league, though they’ve buoyed themselves a bit with good defense. Here’s what’s happened to this week.
Tuesday, Dec 5: Capital city Go-Go
The Swarm played a home and home with the Capital City Go-Go (Wizards affiliate). In the home fixture, the Swarm pulled out a narrow win. After falling behind by as many as 11 points in the first half, they climbed back to take a narrow lead at the break. The majority of the second half was played with the teams separated by just a possession or two. After a rough first half, Nick Smith Jr. caught fire with four second half 3-pointers. The game came down to the final possession, where a missed Leaky Black free throw was rebounded by the Swarm. Amari Bailey’s potential game winner went begging, but Trevon Scott tipped it in at the buzzer for the win. Bailey led the Swarm with a very efficient 24 points.
Thursday, Dec 7: Capital city Go-Go
The Swarm had no such luck in the reverse fixture. This time, they built an early lead on the back of 14 points in the first six minutes of the game from Nick Smith Jr. They then watched it evaporate in the second quarter. The offense couldn’t generate any open looks in the half court and turned the ball over nine times in the second quarter alone. The Go-Go cruised to a win from there. No other Swarm player stepped up in the absence of Smith.
Saturday, Dec 9: Delaware Blue Coats
To wrap up the week, the Swarm went to Delaware to take on the Blue Coats. They led throughout a good first quarter, with Amari Bailey and Jaylen Sims each contributing nine points. The wheels fell off after that, much like in the previous game. The Blue Coats went on a 20-2 run to start the second quarter, and that was the end of it being a competitive game. They ended up outscoring the Swarm 116-94 over the final three quarters to cruise to a commanding win. Bailey finished with a team high 26 points, but he did need 26 shots to get there.
The Swarm finished the week 1-2 and are now 3-10 on the season. They have yet to win a road game in six tries. They’ll have one game this week–Wednesday against the College Park Skyhawks.
