Brandon Miller will play in the Rising Stars game at NBA All Star Weekend

Charlotte Hornets rookie Brandon Miller will be participating in NBA All Star Weekend. The league announced the lineup for the Rising Stars game, and the Alabama product made the cut.

Miller is the only rookie or sophomore to make the cut from the Hornets. Nick Smith Jr. is the best 3-point shooting rookie this season, but he hasn’t gotten the minutes or the buzz to justify consideration here. Mark Williams would’ve had a shot to make the game had been healthier.

The Rising Stars game took on a new format a couple of years ago that will continue this season. The players will be divided into four teams of seven. The G League players will make up one team. The 21 NBA players will be drafted to fill out the other three teams on February 4th. The teams will be coached by Pau Gasol (last year’s winning coach), Tamika Catchings, Jalen Rose, and Detlef Schrempf, who will be coaching the G League squad.

The four teams will play a single elimination tournament with no timing. The first round game will be to 40 points, then the two winning teams will play a game to 25 for the championship.

The game will be played on Friday night of All Star Weekend, which is February 16th, at 9:00 pm Eastern time. It’s right after the Celebrity All Star Game which is always a little bit fun and silly.

Good for Brandon getting the recognition as one of the more distinguished rookies in the class, though it does seem like a pretty obvious decision to make. Hopefully he shows out in front of the national audience that has surely not watched a single minute of Hornets basketball this season.
