Greensboro Swarm Sunday update: February 4, 2024

We’re back with our almost weekly update about the Greensboro Swarm, who are losing games in solidarity with their parent club. They’ve done stuff besides lose games too though!

Transactions

January 26: Swarm claim Kent Bazemore. The Swarm added some more NBA experience in the former Warriors, Hawks, and other teams wing. He had two stints with the Warriors immediately before and in the middle of their dynasty but was not on the team for any other championships. He’s a local guy too, so it’s a good pickup.

Wednesday January 31: Swarm lose at the buzzer to the Charge

RJ Hunter and his gunslinger shooting helped the Swarm out to a double digit first quarter lead, but they watched that lead slowly turn into a double digit deficit by the third quarter. They let the Charge shoot warmup jumpers from three for most of the game, just like their parent club. However, they were able to get stops in the fourth quarter to set up a dramatic finish. Kent Bazemore drove down the right side of the lane for a layup that put the Swarm up one with five seconds to play. Isaiah Mobley (brother of Evan) responded by driving down the right side of the lane on the other end for a dunk with less than a second to play to give the Charge the win.

Jaylen Sims led the Swarm with 21 points while veterans RJ Hunter and Kent Bazemore chipped in 21 apiece.

Friday February 2: Swarm lose to Bulls but wear cool jerseys

The Swarm wore specially designed black, red, green, and yellow jerseys for HCBU night against the Windy City Bulls. The Swarm again built a first quarter lead with 3-pointers before a third quarter ice age let the Bulls take a nice sized lead of their own. They briefly tied the game in the fourth quarter and had a chance to take the lead with a free throw, but Terrell Brown missed it. The Bulls followed with nine straight points and never looked back.

A masked Onurlap Bitim led the Bulls with 31 points and some impressive shot making. The Swarm were led by an inefficient 19 points by RJ Hunter and a more efficient 19 points from Jaylen Sims.
