Three Hornets most likely to be traded by the trade deadline

We are at the eve of the NBA trade deadline, and boy howdy has it been an eventful trade season so far. Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis were exchanged in an old school trade that harkened back to the days when most NBA GMs had no idea what they were doing. De’Aaron Fox is now a Spur. Zach LaVine joined up with DeMar DeRozan to run it back in Sacramento.

But perhaps the biggest move so far involved your Charlotte Hornets. They struck a deal with their pals the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Hornets sent out the Nuggets’ 2030 second round pick and in return got the Suns’ 2029 second round pick. Truly blockbuster.

Oh yeah they also traded Nick Richards to the Suns.

The Hornets likely aren’t done either. They clearly aren’t trying to win much the rest of the year and probably wouldn’t win much even if they tried. There are a few players that seem likely to be traded off, though I doubt we see anyone draw back much return. Here are the most likely bets to be traded.

Cody Martin

Martin has become rather redundant with Josh Green under contract for a couple seasons beyond this one. In the short term, Josh Okogie has fit into the Martin role while Cody deals with yet another injury. His twin brother Caleb just got traded to the Mavericks for Quentin Grimes and a second round pick. The Hornets would probably a seek out a similar return for Martin. Apparently the Lakers and Nuggets are interested.

Vasilije Micic

Micic has seemingly been connected to the Nuggets for six or seven months at this point. He played on the Serbian Olympic team with Nikola Jokic and seems like a good fit. Russell Westbrook has worked out better than expected out in Denver, so there might not be mutual interest. This trade feels significantly less likely to happen than it did in the offseason, but perhaps there will be other suitors for a decent bench point guard.

Miles Bridges

Bridges is the most farfetched of these names, but if the Hornets wanted to really embrace the tank and collect future assets, Bridges would be the name to watch. He’s been playing well with LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller out injured and is on a reasonable deal for the kind of production he’s been offering. I don’t think a trade involving Bridges will happen, and I don’t think it should happen, but he’s still a name to keep an eye on as the trade deadline approaches, especially with some of the big names that seem likely to be moved.
