Hornets sign Moussa Diabate to three year contract

The Charlotte Hornets have signed Moussa Diabate to a full NBA contract for three years.

The Charlotte Hornets did not disclose the terms of the deal, as per usual. Usually there are some reports that tell us the value and terms of the contract, but we haven’t gotten any so far as I’m aware. These deals are typically around minimum level deals that have team options or unguaranteed portions in the later years. I expect Diabate’s deal is along those lines.

Diabate has probably been the best two-way find the Hornets have ever had. He signed a two-way contract on the last day of July, and I don’t think many people thought too much of it. With all of the player absences this season, the Hornets ended up relying on Diabate heavily. He’s appeared in 43 games this season; only Josh Green has showed up in more.

Moussa has been a terror on the offensive glass, and there are few centers who can switch out on the perimeter as effectively as he does. He’s probably too offensively limited to be a true cornerstone player, but his energy, rebounding, and defense are invaluable as a rotational piece.

The only downside is that as soon as he signed his full contract with the Hornets, he went out and got injured in his first game when he got hit in the face by Isaiah Stewart. Such is life for the Charlotte Hornets. Hopefully it turns out to be a minor issue.
