The Charlotte Hornets are signing guard Malachi Flynn to a 10 day contract to replace Elfrid Payton, whose second 10 day contract expired the other day.
#Hornets are signing guard Malachi Flynn to a 10-day contract, league sources confirm. Another addition, another player to take a look at.

Flynn was taken with the 29th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Raptors after a heavily decorated junior season at San Diego State. He never quite caught on with the Raptors and was traded as a sort of thrown in piece in the OG Anunoby trade with the Knicks midway through the 2022-23 season. The Knicks had no use for him and traded him a little over a month later to the Pistons.
With the Pistons, Flynn became probably the most random player to score 50 points in an NBA game. He dropped 50 points off the bench in a loss to the Hawks. He made 18 of his 25 shot attempts in that game and 5-of-9 threes. He has the lowest per game scoring average of any 50 point scorer in NBA history. His next best point total in a game is 27, which he did in his rookie season. He’s only scored 20 or more points six other times in his career.
Flynn has a little more scoring pop than Payton but hasn’t been very efficient so far in his career. But, like almost every other acquisition the Hornets have brought in during the season, he’s a pretty good, disruptive defender.
