The Charlotte Hornets landed the 4th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery, falling one spot from their original spot at number 3 overall. The teams picking ahead of the Hornets:
- Dallas Mavericks
- San Antonio Spurs
- Philadelphia 76ers
The three teams ahead of the Hornets all have histories of success. The Mavericks are rewarded for their terrible handling of Luka Doncic. The Spurs get lucky again. The 76ers shut down all their stars and get a top three pick on a team that should be in the playoffs right now.
It’s incredibly frustrating for teams like the Hornets, Jazz, Pelicans, and Wizards, who need the help of high picks to try to join the ranks of those teams. This lottery outcome, while just a blip in the grand scheme of things, does seemingly consolidate more talent on a smaller number of teams.
Oh well. We move. Fourth isn’t a bad spot to be. We’ll spend the next few weeks hemming and hawing about who the Hornets should take there.
