According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Charlotte Hornets are signing guard Spencer Dinwiddie to a one year deal.
The full terms of the deal haven’t been disclosed, but he previously played on a minimum contract with the Mavericks, so my guess it’s the same deal here. I’ll also guess that he’s not going to tokenize this contract.
Dinwiddie has bounced around for much of his 11 year career, mostly between the Nets and the Mavericks. He spent last season in Dallas where he averaged 11 points and 4.4 assists per game as a spot starter and regular rotation player.
Dinwiddie provides more guard depth to a Hornets roster that’s currently overflowing with it. He’s usually a primary ball handler, but he has good size and has functioned in a lot of two guard lineups throughout his career.
For those keeping score, the Hornets guard group currently contains:
- LaMelo Ball
- Collin Sexton
- Tre Mann
- Spencer Dinwiddie
- Pat Connaughton
- Nick Smith Jr.
- Sion James
- KJ Simpson (two-way)
- Damion Baugh (two-way)
Plus we have wings that can play the two:
- Brandon Miller
- Kon Knueppel
- Liam McNeeley
- Josh Green
- Josh Okogie
- DaQuan Jeffries
It is a truly absurd roster crunch which only stands to mean that more moves are on the horizon, presumably before the moratorium ends on Sunday.
