Hornets signing Drew Peterson to two-way contract

Late Monday night, Shams Charania of ESPN and Rod Boone of the Charlotte Observer reported that the Charlotte Hornets would be signing Drew Peterson to the team’s third two-way slot.

Peterson initially joined the Heat as a summer league player after going undrafted out of USC in 2023. He impressed enough there to earn himself a spot with the Heat in the preseason but was ultimately cut and signed to the team’s G League affiliate. He was only there for about a month and a half before the Celtics poached him with a two-way contract. He was on two-ways with Boston from that point until this month.

He’s only appeared sporadically in the NBA, but he’s put out significant production in the G League. In his two seasons, he’s averaged 16.9 points on 46.1% shooting from the field and 37.3% shooting from three to go along with 6.6 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game.

Peterson is listed at 6’9″, so he brings good size along with a very versatile offensive skill set. As we’ve noted with pretty much all of the Hornets offseason additions, he fits the bill as a smart player that can do a little bit of everything, and he can knock down outside shots. He probably won’t spend too much time with the Hornets if this season goes according to plan for once, but he’s a good add.

Peterson joins KJ Simpson and Damion Baugh as the Hornets three allotted two-way players. The Hornets now have 22 players on the roster, so people are going to have to start getting up out of here soon.

And for those wondering, there is no relation between he and Hornets general manager Jeff Peterson.
