We’ve had a few days to let the dust settle after the NBA trade deadline, so there’s no better time than now to take inventory of everything that happened. A lot of people probably missed a lot of moves that got buried by some of the bigger trades that happened around the league.

The big story leaguewide is that the Charlotte Hornets are 2-0 since they made two trades that shored up their bench and those guys started suiting up. They won both of those games by nine points, which is better than any of their previous 10 wins. I haven’t read the Internet to verify that this is the NBA’s top story, but I’m sure it is.

In other, less important, non-Charlotte Hornets news, a lot of other players got traded while others got bought out to sign with different teams. Let’s take a look. You can read about the pre-deadline deals here.

The Trades

• The Warriors gave the Pacers Cory Joseph for a swap of second round picks; the Pacers waived him
• The 76ers gave the Danuel House to the Pistons so the Pistons could buy him out
• The Raptors gave up Otto Porter, Kira Lewis, and a 1st round pick that they got in a previous trade for Ochai Agbaji and Kelly Olynyk for some reason
• The Bucks gave away Robin Lopez to the Kings so the Kings could waive him and Lopez could attend the Bucks game as a fan and book reader
• The Mavericks acquired Daniel Gafford for Richaun Holmes and a 1st round pick along with the PJ Washington trade
• The Celtics gave Dalano Blanton away to the Trail Blazers to make room for the 76ers giving Jaden Springer away to them
• The Mavericks got a 1st round pick from the Thunder this year in exchange for possibly letting them swap 1st round picks in 2028
• The 76ers sent Patrick Beverley to the Bucks for Cam Payne and a 2027 2nd round pick
• The Nets traded Spencer Dinwiddie to the Raptors for Dennis Schroder and Thaddeus Young in like the least consequential move of all time. Dinwiddie was bought out.
• The Pistons traded their good players Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks for a bunch of Knicks spare parts, second round picks, and money
• The Suns got Royce O’Neale from the Nets and David Roddy from the Suns for some of their bench guys and picks
• The Pacers got Doug McDermotte to replace Buddy Hield, who went to the 76ers, while Marcus Morris went from the 76ers to the Spurs. Some 2nd round picks and cash got swapped around in there too.

The Buyouts

• The Hornets finally bought out Kyle Lowry after sitting on him for a while, and he’ll join his hometown 76ers in place of the departed Patrick Beverley. Apparently the Bulls had interest in him as well for who knows what reason.
• Spencer Dinwiddie latched on with the Lakers after being let go by the Raptors
• The Thunder, in their quest to be the Hornets, added Bismack Biyombo after he was cut by the Grizzlies

The Hornets outlook

The Hornets are 2-0 since they started playing the players they acquired at the trade deadline and have an open roster spot after buying out Kyle Lowry. Other teams around the league have already started the process of signing guys on 10 day contracts as a sort of tryout as we approach the home stretch of the season. Some notable names have been signed, like Taj Gibson with the Knicks and Justise Winslow with the Raptors. The Hornets should be perusing the market for a big with good size that can defend. The Hornets are forced to go small without Mark Williams in the lineup and they need to start hunting for a third center to fit in long term anyway.

They’ll eventually have new people to lead that charge. Mitch Kupchak will be stepping down as the team’s president of basketball operations, and the team will start searching for his replacement immediately.
