Terry Rozier under investigation due to unusual betting patterns

Former Charlotte Hornets guard Terry Rozier is under investigation for unusual betting activity surrounding a game he played for the Hornets late in the 2022-23 season. According to ESPN, the game was the last one he played in that season. It was against the Pelicans, and he did not return to the game after his initial run of minutes to start the game. He had a decent start to the game, but none of his stats were nearly enough to hit his full game overs.

Where the real shadiness starts is with the activity of the sportsbooks on that day. Rozier was not on the injury report, and there were no outward indications that he was in danger of missing the game. However, some sportsbooks abruptly removed his betting lines a few hours before tipoff. That either means people within the sportsbooks knew something, or, more likely, there was a sudden influx of bets on the unders for Rozier that was large enough to set off alarm bells.

Bettors tried to get as much money down as possible, parlaying the unders on Rozier’s statistics, including rebounds, ahead of the March 23, 2023 game, sources familiar with the betting told ESPN’s David Purdum.

Apparently the NBA quietly investigated this back when it originally happened but found no wrongdoing.

We’ll see if this new investigation by the US Attorney’s Office finds anything else. Fortunately it seems like the Hornets are clear of any wrongdoing. It seems Rozier is too for the moment, but we’ll see if that changes.
