Charlotte Hornets announce upcoming renovations to Spectrum Center

The Charlotte Hornets have put a terrible product on the court this season. If there’s one silver lining in all of the struggles and blowout losses, it’s that there is a new ownership group at the helm that is surely going to make changes to make their investment worthwhile.

Nothing is going to change on the court in the immediate term, and as badly as many may want this, the coach and general manager probably aren’t going anywhere until the offseason. However, the team did share some good news amidst a woeful stretch of basketball play. Renovations are coming to the Spectrum Center with the aim of improving the fan experience for everyone that attends the games.

Some highlights from the press release:

  • They are somehow adding 2,500 seats to the lower level. They mention new and more comfortable seats, so I assume they’re removing and replacing every seat in the lower level.
  • They intend to improve traffic flow (which is badly needed) and visibility into the bowl
  • There will be more varied suite options
  • Club level amenities are improving and will be accessible to 1,000 seats in the lower level
  • A renovated Dr Pepper Pavilion in the upper concourse
  • Upgraded concessions and grab-and-go options

All these renovations come while a new practice facility is reportedly being developed as well.

I know fans are most concerned with the product on the floor improving, and that will surely happen. But it’s good to see that the new ownership group is doing everything they can to improve the organization as a whole. They have a vision for where they want this team to be and they’re willing to spend the capital required to make it happen.
