The G League regular season is in full swing. The first several weeks of the season were the Showcase Cup, so everyone got a clean start a couple of weeks ago. The Greensboro Swarm have been slightly better in the regular season–they’re 3-5 after going 4-12 in the showcase. They played three games this weekend and went 1-2. Let’s recap.
January 10, 2024: Swarm lose to Go-Go, 105-87
The Swarm dug themselves a first half hole thanks in large part to turnovers and apathetic transition defense. Four of those turnovers came off the hands of Amari Bailey. Back to back 3-pointers early in the fourth put the Go-Go up 25, and the Swarm used the rest of the fourth quarter just to make the score slightly more respectable. RJ Hunter led the Swarm with 22 points off the bench.
January 12, 2024: Swarm avenge loss and beat Go-go, 115-111
The Swarm again started slow but this time were able to bounce back much quicker. Still, they played most of the first half in a modest deficit. They fell behind by as many as nine late in the fourth quarter but were able to reel off nine straight to tie the game. After the teams traded layups to knot the score at 111, Eugene Omoruyi missed two chances to give the Go-Go the lead in the final 30 seconds. After a pair of Terrell Brown Jr free throws put the Swarm up two, Omoruyi missed the potential game tying free throws to seal the win for the Swarm.
January 13, 2024: Swarm blown out by Magic, 108-97
Jett Howard scored 16 first quarter points to put the Osceola Magic up by 16 after one quarter of play. The Swarm briefly narrowed the deficit to single digits in the third quarter, but a big run by the Magic to close the quarter all but put the game out of reach heading into the fourth. The Swarm went on a little run in the middle to late fourth quarter, but there wasn’t enough time left to make the game interesting. The Swarm were led by 23 points and five assists from Jaylen Sims.
What’s Next
The Swarm will host the very same Magic team on Monday afternoon before heading west to take on the South Bay Lakers on Saturday.
